Alpha 7 - A better look! changelogs
Backward compatible: yes (see below for this new tag)
This update has been focused on enhancing the look of the map by both the engine and the vanilla content. The engine will now cut each tiles into 5 parts according to neighboring. The vanilla content has some new aesthetic stuff and some textures has been changed to be less flashy, and less contrasted.
This update is not "big" in terms of content, but highly enhance the look of the map, I hope you'll enjoy it!
New engine features
- Tile cutter: The tiles of the map are now cut according to neighboring, this is mainly to avoid "staircase" effects of diagonal transitions. The actual system requires enhancements, to better handle "more than two tile types" situations and "checkerboard" situations.
- Backward compatibility: Until now, each new version was systematically not compatible with saves and content packs of the previous version. This is not the case anymore, this version for example, is compatible with the previous one (but you will have to install the previous vanilla content pack to open old saves). Future versions will sometimes be backward compatible, and sometimes not.
- Random horizontal flip of structures: To reduce the monotony of the map, structures have now the option to randomly flip horizontally.
- Avoid stuck structures: Some structures doesn't want to be horizontally or vertically stuck with another one. Structure has now a new option to avoid that.
- Polish characters support: Polish characters are now supported. If some special characters of your language are not supported, ask me in the discord to add them!
Vanilla content
- Less flashy, less contrast: Many textures of tiles or structures has been enhanced, to be less flashy and contrasted.
- Firs: New tree: the fir, it appears in high altitude, generally close to mountains. There is also a new variant of grass in high altitude.
- Paths and bridges: New map element: paths. They become bridges on top of rivers. paths increases the speed by 20%.
Bug fix
- Texture memory leak: A memory leak of textures has been solved, which increased the video memory used by the game when restarting games without closing it.
